In the PhD Program in Organizational Psychology at our San Francisco Campus, you will develop into a resourceful scholar-practitioner, with the depth and breadth of knowledge and skills required to apply state-of-the-art research and practice to real world challenges faced by organizations. This is a unique and highly applied doctoral training program, taught by faculty who have extensive professional practice and management experience.
While you will gain a strong foundation in organization theory and research methods, the emphasis is in this is on the pragmatic application of these in real-life organization settings. You will learn how to apply theory, rather than simply learning theory. Additionally you will learn how to plan and conduct effective organization research as the basis for designing practical interventions and solutions designed to improve organizational effectiveness and performance. The doctoral program focuses on applied research and practice in the areas of:
• Strategic organization change implementation
• Leadership effectiveness
• Organization culture assessment and realignment
• Team development and performance
• Organization design
• Organization assessment
• Organization research
• Cross-cultural and international organization behavior
• Executive coaching
• Consulting process and interventions
• Professional practice ethics
• Interpersonal skills and self as an instrument of change
Our doctoral graduates enter a variety of professional careers. Some pursue careers as organizational, management, or human resources development consultants with large or boutique consulting firms or positions internal to private and public sector companies. Some develop their own organization and management consulting practices, and still others provide professional training and teach in higher education settings. Within the structure of the doctoral curriculum, students have some opportunities to customize their education and training based on their professional career goals. Students work closely with faculty and the Program Director to determine areas of specific professional and academic focus.
This doctoral program is offered on a full-time or part-time basis. Field work training is completed under the supervision of field-based, while the completion of a research based dissertation occurs under the guidance of a faculty advisor.
