Biography
Dr. Webb is the Founding Dean of the Graduate School of Education. She is a nationally renowned expert on language and cognition, sociolinguistics and equitable pedagogy. She is widely published, and her expertise as an applied linguist is sought worldwide. Her most recent book is entitled, A Teacher’s Introduction to African American English, co-authored with Dr. Teresa Redd and published by the National Council of Teachers of English, as part of NCTE’s Teacher’s Introduction Series. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Examiners for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Dr. Webb has served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Education as well as to a number of state education agencies. Moreover, she is a member of the Advisory Board of the National Science Foundation funded Strengthening Minority Access to Research and Training (SMART).
On February 24, 2005, Alliant International University dedicated the Karen Schuster Webb, PhD Graduate School of Education Resource Center in the Rudolph Hurwich Library at the San Francisco campus.
